Retail sales in Spain hit the second highest month in history
Bayanalysis - Spanish retail sales rose 19.6 percent in May on an annual basis, after a record 40.5 percent jump in April, according to Spain's National Statistics Institute. Reflecting the rebound in demand after the recent reopening efforts that took place.
Sales of non-food products increased by 38.3 percent compared to 106.9 percent in April, supported by personal equipment, whose demand rose by 108.9 percent compared to 335.1 percent in April as well, while household equipment recorded a growth of 45.7 percent compared to 170.9 percent in April; Other goods registered a growth of 14.7% compared to 42.9% in April.
In another trend, food trade witnessed a decline of 2.8 percent, after rising by 0.2 percent in the previous April.
Historically, retail sales in Spain witnessed their highest rise in April 2021, but the lowest decline was recorded in April 2020, when the decline reached 31%.
