UK car production rises 934% year-on-year
Bayanalysis - Car production in Britain rose to 54,962 units during last May, from 5,314 units during the same month last year, when car production was affected by the Corona epidemic and the precautionary restrictions imposed at the time on car factories, according to the Association of Car Manufacturers and Dealers in the United Kingdom. (SMMT).
Going back a year more, we will see that car production in May 2021 is still 52.6% lower than in May 2019, despite the increase in car production in British factories to 429 thousand and 826 units during the 5 months from January to May 2021, compared to 324 thousand and 763 units. In the same period of 2020, though also at the 5-month level, the output level of 2021 remains 22.9 percent lower than in 2019.
This reflects the scale of the challenge that the auto industry is facing to recover from the impact of the Corona epidemic, in addition to its struggle to mitigate the negative impact of the shortage of semiconductor chips and the global supply as a whole of auto parts.
Returning to the recent rates of car production and comparing them with the last five years, we will see that there is a decrease of about 58 percent from the average production in May during the mentioned period, and by 36.3% in the five-month period.
Historically, car production recorded its highest number of 185 thousand and 157 units in March 2000, while it reached the lowest level for car production in Britain in April 2020 and recorded at that time only 197 units.
